Recorded in November 1993, six months before the death of singer Kurt Cobain, and released in November 1994, this mainly acoustic performance by Nirvana for the MTV Unplugged series captures the band at their peak. Some electronic amplification and guitar effects were used, and the song list was more than a run through of fan favourites, but included some cover versions including David Bowie’s ‘The Man who Sold the World’. The album had a huge impact when it came out, selling seven million copies within six months of its release.
