It was a major commercial success for the band, entering the UK album chart at #1, and going on to sell over 15 million copies worldwide. It also gave them their first top 10 single in the UK with ‘Run for the Hills’. It was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine at fourth in their list of the top 100 metal albums of all time.
To mark the 40th anniversary of its release the original studio album has been remastered with a revised track listing.
